Advanta Indonesia a finalist of the UN Women 2020 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards

Advanta Indonesia was one of a few finalists in the UN Women 2020 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards. Over 400 applications from 17 countries were submitted for the award.

The UN Women 2020 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards is a special recognition for women’s empowerment. It aims to encourage and recognize individuals and businesses’ efforts that promote gender-inclusive business cultures and the achievement of gender equality in Asia-Pacific, guided by the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs).

The UN Women 2020 Asia-Pacific WEPs Awards are sponsored by WeEmpowerAsia, a joint program by the European Union and UN Women. The program aims to increase the number of women who lead and participate in the economy in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

For Advanta, empowering women is a part of the UN SDGs’ commitment. One of the essential contributions to UN SDGs is to provide food security. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial to support farming women who run the households and are responsible for putting food on the table.

Advanta Indonesia made it to the UN Women 2020 Asia- Pacific WEP’s Awards final by impressing the judges with a thoughtful marketing program of empowering women farmers during the pandemic. Advanta engaged women directly by inviting them on a priority basis to crop and technology demonstrations and training. At the events, Advanta provided designated health and safety checks and seating areas for women. Additionally, all women received safety kits.

As a result, women’s participation increased by 30%, followed by increased seed inquiries and engagement through social media.

Advanta Indonesia targets 75% of women farmers’ participation in crop demonstration and technology training in the area where women’s involvement is high in decision making. The goal is to empower women by giving them access to quality seeds and the latest technologies across Indonesia.
